Final Abu Dhabi - Top 10 for SPS

12th and 13th round Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup – Abu Dhabi (UAE)

Further Top-10 rankings for the team SPS-Performance

The 2009 season of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup ended for Patrick Huisman and the SPS-Performance team with fourth rank in both, the driver standings and the team standings. At the season final of the fast makes cup in the context of the Formula 1 debut at the YAS-Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi the drivers of the team SPS-Performance clinched once again Top-10 positions.

”It was a quite interesting and turbulent race today”, so Patrick Huisman after the first of two final races of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup in Abu Dhabi. “After a brilliant start I lost some positions, because I had to find a way around Damien Faulkner, who spun inn front of me. It took some time to get the tyres working again, but than my car was really good. At the end of the race only winner René Rast could go quicker than me. Without the incident with Faulkner, a far better result would have been possible, so I feel quite confident for the race on Sunday.”

The hopes of the four-fold Supercup champion were not confirmed in the last race of the season on Sunday. Started from 12th position, Huisman crossed the finish line on the same rank. “We struggled with the same problem like we often had this season. The pace during the race is quite good, but our performance in the qualifying is too bad to end up with a top-result. However, this shall not be an excuse, because I have made a mistake today. I came onto the dirty line and spun", the Netherlander describes his course of the race. "Nevertheless, a great thank-you goes to my team. Despite the up’s and down’s this year, the cooperation with the team SPS-Performance was brilliant. I really hope we can continue working together in the next year."

For Richard Williams, driving the second SPS-Performance Porsche, the race on Saturday ended on 12th position. One day later the Brit improved, crossed the finish line on 10th rank and with that celebrated a conciliatory end of the season. "I have got away terribly bad, in fact I really slept at the start. However, later on the changes we made at the car after the first race paid off. So I finally clinched another top-10 result”, so the Brit. “In the races during the course of the season the performance of our car was quite good, but we often failed to have a good qualifying results, otherwise we would have clinched more reasonable results overall.” A good performance at the finale rounds in Abu Dhabi was also handed in by Alessandro Zampedri, who sat behind the wheel of the third SPS-Performance Porsche. After a 14th rank on Saturday the Italian one day later improved and crossed the finish line on a strong seventh position.

“With the final rounds in Abu Dhabi a difficult season comes to and end for the team SPS-Performance”, says team manager Stephan Sohn. “Due to a small budget we couldn’t act the way we wanted to do. Nevertheless, ranking fourth in the driver standings as well as in the team standings of such a strong championship is not a bad result at all. With better premises we want to fight for the title again next year."
